Psychiatric Medication Management in Florida
Evaluations and ongoing medication care for adults, by secure telehealth statewide.
Psychiatric medication management at Living Well Counseling is care provided by a licensed prescriber who evaluates whether medication may help, starts it if appropriate, and adjusts it over time. Jennifer Taylor, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, is dual board-certified in psychiatric mental health and family practice and sees adults 18 and older by secure telehealth anywhere in Florida. She works alongside our therapists, so medication and therapy stay coordinated rather than running on separate tracks. Most major insurance is accepted. Call (239) 940-7025.

Who This Is For
Medication is not the right answer for everyone, and it is not a substitute for therapy. It is worth a conversation if:
- You have been in therapy and progress has stalled in a way that feels physical as much as emotional.
- Sleep, appetite, concentration or energy have changed in ways that are not shifting.
- You have taken psychiatric medication before and want to review whether it is still the right one.
- Your primary care provider started a medication and you would like a specialist to manage it.
- Symptoms are severe enough that daily functioning has changed.
Jen works with adults 18 and older. Her clinical background spans community mental health and private practice, and she has extensive experience treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, mood disorders and ADHD, with specialized experience in substance use treatment, particularly alcohol use disorder.
For minors who need psychiatric care, we can share referral resources on request.
What Jen Treats
The conditions listed on Jen's profile are the ones she evaluates and manages medication for. In plain language:
- Depression: persistent low mood, loss of interest, changes in sleep, appetite or energy, or the sense of going through the motions.
- Anxiety: worry that does not switch off, panic, or physical tension that sleep and rest do not resolve.
- PTSD: intrusive memories, nightmares, being on edge, or avoidance after a traumatic experience, often alongside trauma-focused therapy such as EMDR.
- Bipolar disorder and other mood disorders: swings in mood, energy and sleep that follow a pattern and need careful, ongoing medication management.
- ADHD: difficulty with attention, organization, follow-through or restlessness that has been present since childhood and affects work or relationships.
- Alcohol use disorder: Jen brings specialized experience in substance use treatment, and can discuss medication options that support recovery alongside counseling.
If your concern is not on this list, call anyway. Part of the first appointment is deciding together whether medication management is the right fit or whether therapy alone, a referral, or a conversation with your primary care provider makes more sense.
How to Prepare for Your First Appointment
An hour goes further when the practical details are ready in advance. Before your evaluation, gather:
- A list of every medication and supplement you take now, with doses, including anything prescribed by another provider.
- Any psychiatric medication you have taken in the past, roughly when, and what happened: what helped, what did not, and any side effects.
- Relevant medical history, including thyroid, heart or liver conditions, pregnancy or plans for pregnancy, and allergies.
- The name and location of your preferred pharmacy.
- Your insurance card, so benefits are verified before the visit rather than after.
- A private space, a charged device with a working camera, and a few minutes to test the video link we send.
- The questions you want answered. Writing them down beforehand means nothing gets lost once the conversation starts.
If you are already working with one of our therapists, tell us. With your consent, Jen and your therapist can share what each needs to know, so you are not asked to repeat your history from the beginning.
What Happens in an Evaluation
The first appointment is scheduled for a full hour so that you feel genuinely heard from the start. It covers your current symptoms and how long they have been going on, your medical history and any medications or supplements you take now, what you have tried before and how it went, and what you want to be different. If medication makes sense, you will leave with a plan and a clear picture of what to expect and when.
Follow-up appointments are thirty minutes and are used to check how the medication is working, adjust the dose, and decide together whether to continue. Jen listens carefully, asks thoughtful questions, and takes detailed notes throughout each visit so that care keeps improving over time.
We will not promise a specific outcome. What we will do is be straightforward about what a medication can and cannot do, how long it usually takes to know, and what the alternatives are.
How Medication and Therapy Work Together
For many people the strongest results come from doing both, and the research base for combined treatment in depression and anxiety is well established. Because our prescriber and our therapists are in the same practice, they can coordinate directly, with your consent, instead of leaving you to carry messages between two offices.
If you are not sure medication is what you need, individual therapy is available at both offices and by telehealth with no requirement to see a prescriber.
Telehealth, and What That Means Practically
All psychiatric appointments are by secure video. You need to be physically located in Florida at the time of the appointment, which is a licensure requirement rather than a preference. You will need a private space and a device with a camera. We use a HIPAA-compliant platform and send the link before your appointment.
Controlled Medications by Telehealth
Jen can prescribe controlled medications by telehealth, including stimulants for ADHD, within current federal and Florida telehealth rules. A full psychiatric evaluation comes first, and a controlled medication is prescribed only when it is the right treatment for a diagnosed condition, with follow-up visits to confirm it is working and still the right choice. The rules for prescribing controlled substances by telehealth have changed several times in recent years. If a change ever affects your prescription, Jen will tell you directly and work out the next step with you.
Insurance & Cost
Jen accepts Aetna, Florida Blue and BCBS, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare and Optum, TRICARE, Medicare, Medicaid, Lee Health, VA Community Care and CHAMPVA. Please reach out if you have questions about your specific plan. We verify your benefits and confirm your cost before the first appointment, so there is no surprise afterward.
Without insurance, a one-hour psychiatric evaluation is $250 and a thirty-minute follow-up visit is $125. With insurance, most patients pay only a copay, which depends on the plan and whether the deductible has been met.
