Christian Counseling in Cape Coral & Fort Myers, FL — Living Well Counseling
Licensed Christian counselors integrating biblical principles with evidence-based therapy.
Therapy Rooted in Faith, Grounded in Science
When you are walking through a difficult season, your faith can be one of your greatest sources of strength. But sometimes the weight of anxiety, depression, grief, marital conflict, or past trauma feels too heavy to carry alone, even with prayer and community support. Christian counseling at Living Well Counseling & Consulting provides a space where your relationship with God is part of the healing process, not something you set aside when you step into a therapist's office.
Our Christian counselors are licensed mental health professionals who are also committed believers. They bring graduate-level clinical training together with a deep understanding of how the Christian faith can inform healing, forgiveness, identity, and restoration. This is not a replacement for your church, your pastor, or your small group. It is professional therapy delivered by someone who shares your worldview and can speak your language when it matters most.
How Christian Counseling Can Help
Christian counseling is appropriate for any mental health concern you might bring to a secular therapist. The difference is that your counselor can draw on biblical principles, prayer, and spiritual practices as part of your treatment plan when you want them included. Common reasons people seek Christian counseling include:
- Marriage struggles — rebuilding trust, improving communication, working through betrayal or emotional distance with a counselor who understands covenant commitment
- Anxiety and worry — learning practical coping skills while also exploring what Scripture says about peace, trust, and surrender
- Depression and hopelessness — clinical treatment for depressive symptoms alongside spiritual support for questions about God's presence in suffering
- Grief and loss — processing the death of a loved one, a miscarriage, a broken relationship, or any significant loss within a framework of Christian hope
- Parenting challenges — navigating discipline, boundaries, and family dynamics in ways that reflect your values
- Identity and purpose — discerning God's calling, processing transitions, and finding meaning during uncertain seasons
- Church hurt and spiritual wounds — healing from legalism, spiritual abuse, or painful experiences within religious communities
If you are wondering whether it is time to seek professional help, know that seeking therapy is not a sign of weak faith. It is a wise and courageous step toward the wholeness God desires for you.
Our Approach
Every session at Living Well begins with clinical excellence. Our Christian counselors use the same evidence-based modalities trusted across the mental health field: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method for couples, EMDR for trauma, and more. These approaches have decades of research supporting their effectiveness.
What makes Christian counseling distinct is the integration of faith into that clinical framework. Depending on your preferences, this might include:
- Opening or closing sessions with prayer
- Exploring relevant Scripture passages that speak to your situation
- Discussing how your relationship with God connects to your emotional patterns
- Working through forgiveness from both a psychological and theological perspective
- Addressing guilt, shame, and grace in ways that honor both clinical best practices and biblical truth
The level of spiritual integration is always your choice. Some clients want faith woven throughout every session. Others prefer to keep it in the background, simply knowing that their therapist understands and shares their beliefs. Your counselor will ask about your preferences during your first appointment and adjust throughout the process.
Living Well Counseling & Consulting is connected to The Living Well Mission, a charitable initiative dedicated to making mental health care accessible to everyone in Southwest Florida. The Mission reflects our conviction that caring for others is central to the Christian life. Through the Mission's scholarship program, individuals and families who are uninsured or underinsured can receive professional therapy at reduced or no cost.
What to Expect
Your first session is a comprehensive intake where your therapist gets to know you: your history, your current struggles, your goals, and your faith background. This is a judgment-free space. Whether you have been a lifelong believer, are returning to faith after time away, or are questioning what you believe, you are welcome here.
After the intake, you and your therapist will create a treatment plan together. Sessions are typically 50 minutes and scheduled weekly or biweekly. We offer Christian counseling at our Cape Coral and Port Charlotte offices as well as through secure video telehealth throughout Florida. To learn more about how to prepare, read our guide on how counseling strengthens relationships.

Our team includes Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC), Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW), and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT) who are also committed Christians. Christian counseling is a specific form of faith-based counseling rooted in the Christian tradition. While faith-based counseling broadly honors any spiritual worldview a client brings, Christian counseling specifically draws on biblical principles, Christian theology, and practices such as prayer and scripture reflection when the client desires. Both approaches use evidence-based clinical techniques. If you are looking for therapy grounded specifically in a Christian worldview, Christian counseling is the right fit. If you follow a different faith tradition or prefer a more general spiritual approach, our faith-based counseling option may be a better match.
No. Our Christian counselors follow a client-directed model, meaning the integration of faith into therapy is guided by your preferences and comfort level. Your therapist will never use sessions to evangelize, judge, or pressure you into specific beliefs or practices. Even within Christian counseling, the depth of spiritual integration varies by client. Some people want scripture woven throughout their sessions, while others prefer occasional prayer or simply knowing their therapist shares their faith. Your therapist will ask about your preferences and respect them.
The Living Well Mission is the charitable arm of Living Well Counseling & Consulting. It exists to remove financial barriers to mental health care for individuals and families in Southwest Florida who are uninsured or underinsured. Through the Mission's scholarship program, qualifying clients can receive professional therapy at reduced or no cost. The Mission reflects our belief that every person deserves access to quality mental health care regardless of their financial situation.
